A Memorial Message by a member of our Executive Committee – Optom Kabani Modie
I, Kabanani Modie, on behalf of the Executive Committee as well as each and every member of our association ,with a heavy heart to deliver this message.
Where do we start about about our beloved cherished Optom Leader?
Dr Rejoice Mohamadi, as we all know him of as a soft spoken, assertive, kind, unbiased, genuine, persona.
Although Dr Mohamadi had many medical accolades he was a humble and down to earth, people’s person.
The Inter-American University in Puerto Rico, USA indeed awarded the well deserving “Outstanding effort to Achieve Goal Award “. He continued to be a goal oriented person as the incoming Chairman of Botswana Optometrists Association in February 2021.
His continuous determination to revive the association from where it stood, is notable. Today ,the changes we observe in BOA like: the revival of the World Council of Optometry and the African Council of Optometry membership, BOCCIM membership. He further established a Group Concessional Professional Indemnity for membership, initiating the web site development for the Association, submission of press release content to Ministry of Health against illegal contact lens/optical vendors ,medical aid meeting stronger deliberations. All this was possible under his dynamic leadership. He turned around the face and history of BOA within four months of holding office.
Dr Rejoice, a legend in the field of Optometry was the first Optometrist in Botswana to have a Fundus Camera at his practice for the benefit of his patients ,has been delivering exemplary clinical skills at his Broadvision practice and further pioneered in setting up an Ophthalmic lab in Francistown .He was a tiger of a trend setter in implementing the Scope of Optometric Practice.
BOA is extremely thankful to this phenomenal Optom academician, Dr Joy for being the brainchild behind the therapeutic refresher course and motivated the Education subcommittee to bring it to action, we at executive committee therefore wish to honour him by dedicating the course as “Dr Rejoice Memorial BOA Therapeutic Refresher Course”.
Rest in peace, son of our soil with your undying calm ,charismatic smile that will remain in our memories eternally ,
Rest in peace, our favourite ‘Optometry Legend’ of Botswana !
BOA shall keep his wife,Dr Maitseo Nwako , in our thoughts and prayers.
AMEN!
