Tlokweng, Chairperson of Botswana Optometrists Association, was the only speaker from Botswana to present a one-of-a-kind case report on refractive error post-COVID-19 across two continents (Botswana and India) at the International Centennial Conference organized by the South African Optometric Association, on the 19th July 2024 at the Emperor Palace Convention Centre, Johannesburg
The case report has been approved by the Ministry of Health & Wellness, Botswana, and Hyderabad Research Eye Institute, India, and further published in the Indian Journal of Ophthalmology (2023).
Thanks to the other authors, Scientist Optom.Dr.Premnandhini Satgunam and Optom Monika Thakur of Prof Brien Holden Institute of Optometry& Vision Sciences, L.V. Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad, India.
The case report presented by Optom. Thanuja Panicker-Naicker at The South African Optometric Centennial International Conference has also been recognized and accepted as a poster by the International Council of Ophthalmology, World Council of Ophthalmology, following an extremely diligent selection process.
The presentation was dedicated to Padmashri, Padma Bhushan, and the late Dr.S.S.Badrinath, founder of Sankara Nethralaya-The Temple of Vision, Medical Research Foundation, Chennai,India.
BOA Chairperson Optom Thanuja Panicker-Naicker had an interactive and fruitful breakfast meeting on July 19, 2024, with IACLE (International Association of the Contact Lens Educators ) Ambassador for the African Region, Optom Elizabeth Chetty, along with other IACLE educators from the University of Johannesburg and the University of Kwazulu Natal.
